The city of Czestochowa is the religious capital of Poland. It is located in southern
Poland in the Silesia province, 145 km from Krakow.
The city is famous for its monastery on Jasna Góra, which during the Polish-Swedish
War of 1655-1660 years has provided much resistance, what is well described in the
novel by Henryk Sinkevich "Flood" ("Potop").
However, the most important attraction of Czestochowa is the miraculous icon of
God’s Mother of Czestochowa. In 2008 to the holy icon came 3,5 million pilgrims and
tourists from 81 countries on the world. Every year walking distance to the icon pass
about 150 thousand people.
Monastery at Jasna Góra with the icon of the Mother of God attract both tourists and
pilgrims from around the world on par with places of cult-St. Fatima and Our Lady of
Lourdes.
